Explanation

You have completed paragraph 6.5 Simplifying expressions  if you have done one of the final assignments below. There are three different final assignments and you need to do at least one of them, which one you do is up to you!  After you have done the assignment you need to hand it in. 

The final assignment will check if you achieved the learning objectives of 6.5 Simplifying expressions.

You need to do at least one of the final assignments to check if you have achieved the learning objectives. You need to hand it everything you made in. 


Option 1

Maximum of 2 learners

Content: 

You are going to make a little booklet with exercises for other learners to practise with. This booklet should contain a sum pyramid with letters; explanation of simplifying expressions; examples of simplifying expressions and exercises with answers. 

You are going to link mathemagic to simplifying expressions. You are also going to design a trick and explain it in the little booklet.  

What needs to be present in your booklet? 

- There need to be two sum pyramids with letters in your booklet. 

- The booklet needs to look attractive. 

- There should be at least 10 exercises with answers in your booklet. 

- The answers must contain intermediate steps. 

- There should be an explanation about simplifying expressions. 

- There should be a PIF list with difficult words, those difficult words need to be explained in English. 

- You may not use any examples from the book or from the website. 

- Explain what the Mathemagics is and what the link is with this paragraph 

- Design a mathemagics trick and explain how your trick works. 

!You only need to have 1 sum pyramid with letters and only 5 exercises with answers in your booklet!

- You may make the booklet on paper or digital. 

- You may use everything you like.

Option 2 (In-depth path only)

Maximum of 2 learners

Content:

You are going to make a mathemagics video with a minimum of three minutes where you are going to do a self-designed magic trick. 

You are not going to explain you trick in the same video. You need to explain how the trick works and the math behind it by making a different video or by typing this on a paper. 

What needs to be present in your video? 

- The video has a minimum of three minutes. 

- If you have chosen to do this assignment in groups of two, you both need to be in the video and you have to speak the same amount of time. 

- You need to explain the trick in a DIFFERENT video or you may type it on a paper. 

- You need to explain the link between this paragraph and the mathemagics. 

Materials: 

- Camera or phone

- Laptop

- You may use everything you need, be creative!

Option 3

Maximum of 1 learner

Content:

You are going to make a comic story about simplifying fractions. Your comic story should have an explanation about subtracting like terms and simplifying mixed expressions with additions and subtractions. 

You may draw everything yourself (on paper/digitally) or you may use a comic story maker just as mystoryboardthat.com you could sign up for free. 

You are going to make a comic story about a mathemagical trick. You need to explain the math behind the trick.

What needs to be present in your comic story? 

- There needs to be one sum pyramids with letters in comic story

- The comic story needs to look attractive. 

- There should be at least 3 exercises with answers in your comic story. 

- The answers must contain intermediate steps. 

- There should be an explanation about simplifying expressions.
